Relaunch of the Archives@Risk website

To celebrate UNESCO World Audio-visual Archive Heritage day 2014 the CCAAA has relaunched the Archives@Risk website

"A New Declaration”

Safeguarding & Celebrating World Audiovisual Archives

The CCAAA represents the world network of audiovisual archives and in a “New Declaration” its members hereby commit to work together in a shared vision and common purpose to support & promote projects or programs aimed at preserving and safeguarding endangered audiovisual archive heritage throughout the world.

The CCAAA strongly advocates for audiovisual archives as valuable international as well as national cultural resources reflecting all aspects of human life and activity which should be afforded safeguarding on a par with other recognised world cultural heritage.

However, in many countries audiovisual archive collections are endangered as a result of poor environmental conditions, natural disaster, political upheavals, war, lack of funding and often by a lack of cultural appreciation.

As part of the "New Declaration" the CCAAA will promote its members shared vision to safeguard these archives through a new Archives@Risk portal - celebrating achievements, registering challenges as well as providing an important platform to highlight at-risk archives; to facilitate links with members and supporters and to inspire new programs and projects, funding and cooperation.

Millions of hours of film, television and radio are at risk!

Worn by time, eaten away by acidity, victims of wars, or natural disasters, lack of investment the audiovisual archives of humanity are in jeopardy. No country, even the most advanced in terms of digitization and conservation, will escape this risk of destruction. We cannot resign ourselves to losing entire volumes of the worldwide audiovisual heritage and thus endangering the cause of preservation of the world's cultural identities. It is imperative to ensure that the world's population is able to transmit its audiovisual memory to future generations.

The Archives@Risk project is a global initiative to safeguard endangered audiovisual archives.
